while i was making ridiculously time consuming, intricately detailed installations (eons ago) i had a visit with stephen who asked "one or two pieces a year, and how is your dealer supposed to make a living off of this?" he went on to say, and i quote, that "no one will be interested in this mumbo-jumbo". right, no one until shortly thereafter the guggenheim and the moma, but thanks stephen. dick.

Stux runs immaculate accounting and pays so promptly it's amazing. I was accustomed to situations where I was always calling the dealer to get paid, waiting months on end. Stux calls me when the check is ready, always before I even think about asking for it. They treats their artists with dignity and respect. Stefan has a great heart and a true love for art.

Sometimes tries to get away with having his artists make less then 50% when they have shows in other cities so he can get a bigger cut.

We got the "mumbo-jumbo" line too -- very middle European chauvinist thing for him to say, probably his M.O. to keep artists in line. He dicked with us for a few months (came to the studio to ogle, demand, demean, and abandon, in that order) and then insulted us with crap offers. But good to hear he pays. We were insulted so much we never called him back to find out more.
