Walter's a cool guy. He started out as a painter in the East Village days (he showed at Metro Pictures), was a contributing editor at Art In America for a few years, and has been the editor of Artnet Magazine for god knows how long. I know he gets on people's nerves sometimes, but he's given many a young writer (including yours truly) his first chance. And his news column was the industry standard for many years (now he's got a lot of competition from newer sites and blogs). Thumbs up.

a total sweetheart. if you email him a reasonable question at his artnet address, he will email you back - no small feat, because I assume he gets a ton of inquiries/complaints, etc. a really good person all around... love this guy.

Walter is great, the one great omission from the Vanity Fair Art World Universe Map.

Only occasionally are there individuals who become so essential to a scene that they embody that very scene. Walter Robinson is one of those rare individuals. Since his initial appearance with the self-published “Art Rite” magazine, to his role in establishing the East Village as “the happening place” with the “EV Eye” Walter’s been there. All’s the pity that he’s concentrated on the writing and publishing. His painting stands as some of the most provocative and influential work of the “Picture” generation Unfortunately, too few people know. If you want to know what’s hot, just follow Walter (I do).

Walter is a doll, has always been at the beginning of everything, more influential in the art world than anyone knows--and the most modest about his contribution. He's a terrific painter as well.

Awesome writer. Always interested in what the younger less-monied galleries are up to. Sweetheart. Great artist, too.
