I don't want to say too much about when and where, but I worked for Adam and he was a total asshole to me and my coworkers. I'll grant you that he seems pleasant at first, and I'm sure he always is if you are a collector or press. But we found him to be surprisingly mean-spirited.
I suspect that is because he started as an artist. He always says that he works FOR artists- gotta respect that. Plus, he's probably better as a dealer and this way he won't drip paint on all his sharp Comme des Garcons suits.
Actually I have done deals with him and the gallery and found him to be generous and sincere. The gallery staff are equally elegant and well-meaning. no attitude at all.
Love the program, have had good dealings with the two partners, but the humorless German guy at the front desk could not be more off-putting. Front desk staff matter a lot. First impressions.

Their Director Adam Scheffer is a truly nice man.

Commonly known as CRIME & GREED.
What is the deal with it being ok for dealers and directors to treat their staff like shit? Why is this ok in Chelsea? Everyone knows it goes on.

While not true of every dealer, this IS New York. The big time, the real deal, the whole ball of wax.
Adam worked at for Christian Haye briefly and for Renato Danese before that.
It's a hard business. People get stressed.
I still think Adam is a nice guy.
Make salable work, on time and under budget and you won't have a problem.
I have bought from Adam in the past nd find him to be honest, enthusiatic and hot!
Adam is one of the few people who seem to have managed to keep honesty and the interest of the artist as the main objectives.
