careful though, if you're in miami during basel, she might bump into you at the door of the duece puke on your shoes, and then forget the semi-meaningful relationship you once had in another time and place... true story.
Lisa was responsible for most of the good aspects of Mixture Gallery in Houston for several years. It's great to have her perspective and presence in New York now.
I showed with her at Mixture - she is a total sweetheart, a very hard worker and an honest gallerist. I had a very good experience with her. I wish her much luck in her new space.
Every once in awhile a dealer comes along who has everything. A great eye, a complete intellect, a strong intuition, an ability to connect. I think by now it is obvious to everyone in the know that this gallery has the potential of greatness. She has only just begun yet at this time she is probably the most exciting gallery on the lower east side.
the above have no place on this site unless they are backed up with examples to prove it. Otherwise, it's just dubious opinion.
In the future, please cites examples of how quickly she paid you (or failed to pay you), how she treated you when you approached her for a discount, or how she treated you when you approched her for a show.
Who cares what you think? We only care about how the dealer behaves.
I am a man who is 36 years old and of mostly silver hair. My skin gets a pinkish tone when the sun hits it too much. As an artist that has been working with Lisa since she started her gallery, I couldn't be more thankful to the cosmological crossroads for bringing us together. She gets me She gets her other artists She is enthuisastic as all hell She is achieving at carving out a program Long term visions and all around good human being. Being a good human being counts above all. An art of living. There is much good to come.
I am a young collector and had a wonderful experience buying a piece from Lisa. She was direct, honest, extremely responsive, kind, charming and genuinely enthusiastic about the artist. She did not balk when I asked about (and received) a discount - - without which I could not have bought the piece. I could not have been happier with the experience. I wish her many years of success and will keep a close eye on her program and will direct much of my collecting budget her way.
I'd like to meet all these people who think Lisa Cooley is "a total sweetheart" and has "an ability to connect"....not commenting on the program at her new gallery, but man, she is one of the coldest most condescending, non-famous dealers in NY. Inquiring about a piece was like auditioning for American Idol or something: humiliating and why bother?
I've collected art from the time Lisa Cooley was just learning the business at a now defunct gallery in Houston, Texas. She has always been honest and straightforward with me. She is a true advocate for the artist and their work. NYC is a motherfucker and we all have bad days, but Lisa is always friendly and gracious to me, when there are plenty of other galleries where I spend more whose staff treat me like gum on the bottom of their shoes.
Rat Fink searching for Scuz Finks, Gold Finks.

Lisa is very artist-oriented. She ALWAYS pays on time and even has advanced payment. Her program stands out as one of the best in town.
