Nice person. Pays on time. Honest. Working to balance out the gender disparity. Gives the artists complete creative control: let's them hang their own shows, never censors work or discusses saleability. Old school European dealer.

I agree, Leo is great. I have worked with him for several years and his enthusiasm and financial support as well as his trust in the artist judgement make him wonderful to work with. He sells, he pays - even if the collector hasn't.

2nd generation all.

These people grew up in this world. They know this business better than you. There is nothing wrong with this.

If you are patient and polite and most importantly "HAVE YOUR SHIT TOGETHER"

They can help you.

In fact they'd love to.

But it's up to you.

I brokered the sale of 2 works by different artists, to the same collector at a different time , the second time he increased my comission and gave the collector a discount--he is an honest and smart businessman--however he does censor artwork with "difficult" subject matter--but then again so does all of Chelsea--cutting edge is taboo in Chelsea.

right on Kelli - Leo has a few quirks that some might not like, but he is extremely loyal to his artist's convictions. btw i am the second anonymous.

Abusive, smug, unstable. Racist and sexually crude after a few beers. He only has nine artists left after years of going through dozens of people (not including people who don't show up in his exhibition history like Jennifer Bornstein and Daniel Gordon who left him without having a show in the main space). He is mostly doing secondary market at this point and that is all he has left to show at the art fairs. There are thirteen names left on his website but Olivier Mosset is represented by Mary Boone, Frank Nitsche hasn't had anything to do with him for years and Sigmar Polke is dead. For the past several years his financial backer has increasingly run the show while Leo does things like starting a gallery in his barn upstate or exercising for hours at the gym in the middle of the day. In return he runs the "castle", shows artists his backer has a financial interest in like Odermatt, and edits their catalogues (Odermatt, Schnabel). He's treated a lot of people badly with needless and senseless cruelty and dishonesty. There's enough money to keep things going in some form that vaguely resembles a gallery and that's really all he cares about.

Jan 26, '12 Anonymous speaks the truth, beautifully. One important additional point: the staff is as incompetent as the leadership is dishonest. In short, an excellent place to show if you like being ripped off, getting your work lost and being lied to.
