really great guy. smart and knowledgeable about painting (is a painter himself). has reviewed my work a couple of times and is insightful yet never flowery or gratuitous.
Stephen is a genuinely good guy, an insightful critic and, a darn good artist. He’s done yeoman’s work following the Brooklyn (Williamsburg) scene for art-net for years before being taken on board with “AA” and by David Cohen at the ”Sun”. As an artist with a longtime commitment to painting, he brings a passion to his subject that is rare and not found among non artist writers. Don’t let the “professorial” appearance fool you, he’s a mensch.
Stephen Maine really understands painting (my opinion) and writes about art with clarity and a refreshing lack of regard for prevailing opinion. I enjoyed his writing on DATELINE BROOKLYN.
Rat Fink searching for Scuz Finks, Gold Finks.

Is writing anymore? On Hiatus? Seems that I've seen much less of his writing out there in the past 6 months.
