This guy is Slick! He's making his way up the ladder pretty fast, and I guess having Saltz on his side doesn't hurt either. He owns 2 bars which are nice for after parties, and he seems to be quite the ladies man, what else could you want from a dealer. My only critique is that he's got a long way to go when it comes to understanding contemporary art, but he seems to have enough money to pay Bard kids to make those decisions for him.

all of the above is correct, however: knowing basically zilch about art (contemp. or otherwise), Moti himself is fickle, like an insecure suitor; hence, he lets big collectors tell him who to show (and who to hire and fire!). this is not good. plus: rumor has it that he doesn't pay his artists. same ol' story...

Moti is a very good dealer, with street smarts you can't find in any other gallery.

I guess hiring the Hort's son-in-law is one way to get your artist's works in the Hort's collection.

...as his attorney that is...

Numbnuts: Peter is the Hort's son, not son-in-law. Many galleries work with him, he's an awesome arts attorney...The Horts' daughter passed away years ago from cancer. Ever heard of the Rema Hort Mann Foundation?

Get your facts straight before you post shit like this.

Btw: Moti's the man. Ain't easy making a leap between businesses, but he's made and continues to make some excellent choices. No one said a dealer has to be from a specific mold. He's surrounded himself with good talent, and that's basically what matters. Like a producer of a movie. Or president of a country.

Maybe let's start a blog and attack all the movie producers and presidents, while we're at it.

The conversation is really about Moti, but why not put collectors on this blog too? (by the way, absolutely no disrespect to Rema or her battle with stomach cancer). But employing Peter Hort is a smart way to get your work in the Hort collection. The second smartest way, to host the Rema Hort benefit auction in your gallery. By the way, didn't Peter run for congress in 2004? Oh yes, here's some info: http://bloggy.com/mt/archives/004435.html

Moti is a totally nice guy. A serious businessman, that has interests in several areas. He is somewhat new to art but is a quality person.

His recent exhibition of the daughter of Richard Prousette-Dart demonstrates a sympathy with bohemian ways and an understanding of the power channels in this world.

And as I recall the price list mentioned a sale.

Well done.

A guy like Moti, who doesn't pay his artists will never be a good galery owner. Never!!!

to Anonymous Dec 13th,"A guy like Moti, who doesn't pay his artists will never be a good galery owner. Never!!!"

Moti is the Man.
I'm one of his artists and your stupid comments upset me.

if you are one of the artists on the gallery roster, and assuming you are right, how stupid are you to mock your own gallerist.
which leads me to think that you got dumped,or never got a chance and you dont have a life.

he has lent me money twice in the past 3 years so I could pay the rent. he shipped my art around the world 5 times in the last 3 years introduced my work to great collectors and paid for every sale.
his gallery is exhibiting in 6 to 8 art fairs every year, producing catalogues for artists and placing them in great collections.
check out the exhibition list for the past 4 years, see how many people got their first show at the gallery.

I can't stand idiots who spew venom with reckless intent.
"not a great gallerist"?... sounds like an artist who can't get a job.find another gallery...I'm sure there is a line of them waiting to exhibit your work.

....or perhaps you are a former director who lost her/his job and can't get a life.
seriously stupid.

Yes you are right: I'm a former director and I know exactly how Moti thinks.- More than you, I believe. Your problem is, that you are too young, too green. But wait...
