i worked for Sperone Westwater in the 90's. She was a bit of a nightmare to work for but probably not atypical. Obviously a great dealer if you are one of her artists.

This latest stunt from Sperone Westwater is pretty much as bad as it gets. While her staff risked their safety getting to the lower east side a day after Hurricane Sandy, Angela Westwater sat uptown in her ivory tower, lunched at the Whitney then went to the salon before the opening she insisted on having. Many other galleries had post-poned their openings. It was an embarrassment to run expensive generators and have fuel delivered to the gallery while homeless people stood on the sidewalk two doors down in from of a darkened Bowery Mission. She cares nothing for the community or her staff- she should be ashamed of herself.

Horribly outdated website. Really lo-res and heavy with some kind of index/art thing.

How could a gallery with an infamously self absorbed image have such a cheap looking website?

I've been to this hubris tower/gallery twice, and both times I witnessed Angela Westwater berating her employees, once at an art opening which is a tasteless display.

I've heard her referred to as "a mean woman" on more than one occasion in the past, this is not an exaggeration, she seems ridiculously demanding.

Word on the vine says she's not the only problem, some of her obsequious underlings only exacerbate the situation needlessly.

Apparently this place makes Gladstone sound inviting.
Watch out.
