She still owes me massive amounts of money from my internship.....Doesn't return any of my calls or email......I am struggling and she has paid me for a months worth of work.........Way to show love for art
I would highly advise not working with her. the reasons are countless. not only does she damage work and steal from artists, she steals from collectors. she is a prime example of everything that is bad about a dealer. thank god she closed, hopefully she stays that way.
same here, sold multiple works, never paid me. owes me thousands. absolutely the worst experience with a gallery I have ever had. stay far, far away from her!
If only all the stories im hearing now that she's closed could be posted here she'd be getting a triple X. too bad the art world is so enamored with professionalism it keeps it's mouth shut and sharks like her alive. and just because she's the only dealer of color don't mean she's going to do you any good.
one of her artists told me she decamped to Europe.... like becky bellwether she clearly took on more than she could handle financially, got behind the 8 ball and her artists paid the price. Happens all the time. A cautionary tale....when a dealer opens a space that logic says they can't afford, they probably can't.
I suspect that the Paris thing was a lie too... In any case I doubt she will be able to hide in Europe. The art world is international and enough people know about her dealing practices here (thanks, in part, to this website).
Update but not really an update: She still has not paid me (and I assume not anyone). No surprise here. Have not heard anything from her in a while, I assume she is hiding. No idea if she is working anywhere or even if she is in the country. You would hope that they wouldn't let a criminal like her flee the country.
I am a collector with years of experience dealing with galleries. Collette Blanchard misrepresented herself and accepted full payment and cashed all checks for a piece of work she did not have. She never delivered the work or returned the money. This was for a substantial amount. She and her gallery partner Chris in Miami did not return subsequent emails or calls.
Have you reached out to the artist? I have found that, in many cases, an artist will honor an agreement like this if they were aware of the sale having had taken place.
I agree with the last poster completely. It would be a good thing to contact the artist directly if you can. In my particular situation with Collette, my work was not returned to me and I was told that it was sold, but I have never been paid, and I have no idea who actually has my work. I would love it if the person who owns it would contact me.
I think that it is very important that the collectors and the artists remain connected. Collette's despicable behavior should not ruin something that should have been a good thing for all involved.
In my case someone liked my work enough to spend quite a bit of money on it. I would love to know who it was.
Dealers come and go, but the artists and the collectors remain.
i knew Collette from college days back in the Pittsburgh, PA area. she was a loud mouth who used many friends and had a girlfriend who moved to NY. Collette did a number on this girl so she, too, could move to NY. once Collette got to NY, she conveniently dumped this girl, and started her (from what people are saying here) unsuccessful foray into the art world. she's a small town player who bit off more than she could chew. she's reeling from the aftermath of very bad karma from scaring old, white people at Denny's back in Pittsburgh. a constant attention getter who never out grew her trying-to-be-better than everyone else in Steubenville OH. Highly doubt this scoundrel is in Paris. Most likely she's taken her sorry deflated self back to smelly Ohio.
she is in fact in new orleans. was working as a shotgirl on bourbon st. now buys old shit and sells it to hipsters at the healing center on st claude. lives above marie's bar on burgundy and dauphine.

Ms. Collette Blanchard starts vicious UNFOUNDED RUMORS when artists stand up for themselves.

She's not the only dealer of color in NYC. But she was the best-dressed dealer of color.

Heard she was in New Orleans. If anyone gets an address for her, please post it here.

So glad I found this site. Collette Blanchard is living in the town of Kilauea on the island of Kauai, in Hawaii. I have her address and phone number.
