It turned into another greedy monster. The space is too problematic to have any chance to see work in any decent manner and I know first hand of international galleries who were so insulted by the hospitality of the Zoo organisers and the terrible state of the after party, plus the fact that in the 21’st century the organisers can’t get internet into the building. So my guess is the days of Zoo being London’s number two fair are over. Good on Frieze by leading the way and having the new Frame section for younger galleries and solo projects, so Zoo will have to push the boat out to impress. Judging by Soraya Rodriguez incapability to not know when she had a good thing going on, I predict a slow irrelevant death for the fair.; February 6, 2009 at 5:29 PM
Anonymous said...: I never understood why this fair got so much attention and can only surmise that they "know the right people" in the London scene. To be fair, I haven't attended the London fairs in a couple of years, but I saw the first two incarnations of Zoo and the work was far weaker than what you'd expect to see at a satellite fair like Scope/Pulse/Volta/Liste. The Year 05/06 fair presented much better work during Frieze but somehow attracted less media attention and eventually went under.; March 21, 2009 at 1:15 PM
