Carlo put the hip into hippy. He’s been slogging along since the early East Village days, and manages to stay interested, engaged and productive. His exhibition “Downtown: 1974-1984” was a fantastic piece of curatorial work and along with the New Museum’s “East Village USA” finally began to establish the historic canon for one of the most salient art communities in the last fifty years. New York need someone like Carlo to keep an eye on the margins and who takes time to search in the long grass.

I love him. He went to my openings years ago, totally involved and authentic and I think he still is.

Any time I find out about something cool, Carlo already knew about it 2 years ago.
I tried to put what Carlo means to me into words. I couldn't. The guy is ineffable. Great mind, even greater person.
