Hudson has a lot of integrity. He shows what he is interested in. He is in it for the "right" reasons. He approaches his gallery like an artist. All that being said, it doesnt bode too well for his artists that he has utter disdain for all art fairs (totally understandable from my point of view) and will not participate. Sadly that seems like the future, or at least the way many artists are making enough money to continue. It's also how you get galleries in other parts of the world. Anyway, so that's a problem. Plus I dont like how there are three shows at a time. I think it would be a cleaner vision with just one. He is moving to the Bowery, will re-open in January, so maybe things could be a little different regarding the exhibition space and schedule. Everyone knows that you can send your slides to Hudson and he will actually eventually look at them and even send you a hand written note back, usually with honest and insightful comments. That is how I began a conversation with him that developed over time to inclusion in group shows, sales, and then solo shows. He's not a gross out dealer type at all! He's the real deal, very unique human being.
Genuinely nice human being. Was very kind to me when I moved to NY which encouraged me to stick with it for many tough years until I signed with a gallery.
His is the only gallery (of that caliber) I've ever seen with clear submission guidelines. No games, no bullshit. And obviously his program has not suffered. Strange how rare it is to find a truly independent vision in this artworld.
Ahh, Hudson is a leech of a man. A wonderful spin-artist, backstabber, and general sociopath. His "handwritten" cards are basically form letters he sends to everyone. His willingness to cut out the legs of his supposed friends is unlike anyone I have ever encountered before. He is a cheat. His deluded sense of self-importance guides his every decision. He will turn on you for his own gain, only to smile in your face five minutes later and declare his loyalty. He despises many of his artists and will often cut people off with no real explanation. The "poor-ol'me" act of his artists "leaving" Feature is another example of how brilliant he is at playing people. Of all of his artists departing in recent years to other, bigger galleries only one left under their own accord and was not facilitated or designed by Hudson himself. Most of the time it was to spite another gallery with whom he had some beef. I do not trust him further than he can toss himself down a flight of stairs.
Last comment is a bunch of hooey. I have been working at Feature for 3 years, I still get paid more than anyone else I know in the industry and I don't plan on leaving. Also, the amount of service given to each artist exceeds that of most other galleries. Artists leave, they are not thrown out. They leave because they falsely think no one is trying to sell their work. Often they find out the truth but too late.
One of the things I like about Hudson is that he will tell you what he really thinks, good or bad. That can be hard to find. He doesn't BS. He's one of the nicest people I've met in the art world and truly cares about the artists he deals with. He doesn't mind someone who asks a lot of questions. Like someone else here commented, he is the real deal!
P.S.--I keep thinking of other things...Hudson is actually one of the few people in the world I trust. ALWAYS pays on time. Isn't looking for "trends" but shows work because he believes in and likes it. I'm sure I'll think of more...

Not only looked at my unsolicited slides, but did so within a year and gave thoughtful feedback.

This man is beyond comment. But he expects you to take care of yourself.
He does.
There is still time in Hudson's life for him to make amends to people he has treated horribly.
I hope for him that he does. It stands in the way of his awareness.
