Ummmmm, I don't think Chicago was quite ready for 2 fairs...Art Chicago was still trying to get its feet back under it....low traffic at Next...few collectors...preemptive. Spaces were decent though
You've got to start somewhere. At least it was very well organized and they have listened very closely to criticism, making significant changes for NEXT 2009. As a participating gallery, I have high hopes for the second edition.
Supremely well organized fair. I've never done a more stress-free art fair. Props to Kavi. Great booths in 2008. Easy to do and reasonable booth fees. Problem is, collectors in Chicago really don't buy much other than Chicago artists. Which is great for Chicago. Grow local, buy local. But not for galleries bringing in artists from elsewhere. Sales were very slow last year and anticipated to be even slower this year. That's the only reason my gallery is not doing it again. Purely a business decision. Otherwise a great fair.
Rat Fink searching for Scuz Finks, Gold Finks.
